This Holistic Yoga series begins with a personalized discussion of your intentions, current movement patterns, and any injuries. This allows us to co-create a yoga asana (posture) sequence specifically for your body, designed to balance your mind, heart, and body.
We’ll start with yogic breathing techniques to facilitate energy flow, then learn to move harmoniously from pose to pose, with safety pointers and verbal alignment adjustments along the way. We’ll practice together until you’ve memorized the sequence as a collection of small, memorable sets. By the end of this series, you’ll have a tailored practice that supports vitality, flow, and flexibility in your daily life.
Background
My yoga journey began in 2007 with an Ipsalu Tantra Kriya yoga class led by John LaughingHawk. There, I learned a pranayama (rhythmic breathing) practice. This was the first time I had intentionally modulated a physiological process for effect (beyond holding my breath to swim), and it was revelatory to realize its remarkable impact on my experience. I continued weekly classes until moving to Asheville, NC, in 2009, where I explored Hatha and Anahata (Heart Chakra) yoga. Though Hatha was challenging, I found it invigorating and compelling.
During Massage Therapy school, I increased my yoga practice to 2-3 times a week, a frequency I’ve largely maintained since. The accumulating benefits were life-changing: my sense of agency in shifting energy and mood through asana practice was profoundly empowering.
Driven to share this knowledge, I enrolled in Kristine Kaoverii Weber’s Subtle Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training for Behavioral Health Professionals (2010-2011). This nine-month program provided therapeutic interview skills and a deep understanding of how yoga poses and pranayama techniques can address psychological distress. My curiosity then led me to Michael Johnson’s 300-Hour Yoga Philosophy training through Asheville Yoga Center, starting in 2014. Under his direct mentorship, I immersed myself in Ashtanga Yoga‘s Primary Series, practicing six days a week for the next five years. The 300 Hour training dove deeply into the origins of yoga in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
I’ve also pursued Yoga Alliance certified continuing education in Yin Yoga, Kid’s Yoga, Neuroscience and Yoga, and Bhakti Flow Vinyasa yoga. Today, I continue to practice 2-3 times a week, and continue deriving new insights.
